Decision-making

Background: Sitting in church, listening to a powerful message, realizing I need to make some decisions.

What should I wear? Burger or the salad? Do I let it go this time, or do I take a stand. Every moment of our lives is a result of a decision. Some happen so fast we don’t have time to go back and change them. Other times our decisions are strongly influenced by others, which could be good or bad. As women we make lots of decisions, not only for ourselves but for our families and those who are subjected to us. Let’s see what the P31 has to teach us on decision making.

Proverbs 31:18,13,19
These particular scriptures refer to the P31 seeking out materials and actually producing something with it. Verse 18 says that she perceives or becomes aware directly through her senses, that her merchandise is good. Her merchandise wasn’t good when she finished it, it was good when she chose the materials she was going to use to make her products. When she perceived it was good, this was simply confirmation of a decision she made, because she finally saw it. With any decision we make we have to have a good idea of whether the decision will profit us or cause us loss. Now if this woman bought a fabric that was appropriate for winter and tried to sell her product in the summer, she probably would have no sells or would have to sell her stuff on clearance because it is out of season. Knowing the proper time to make decisions is also key. Sometimes things must wait while no time can be wasted to make other decisions. We have to be mature enough to know when to make certain decisions.

Proverbs 31:16 – She goes to inspect a field and buys it; with her earnings she plants a vineyard.
When we make a decision we should have some research on what we are about to do and everything involved. Not all decisions require that much preparation but some of our most important ones do. Every decision we make should be purposeful. The woman went to check out this land to make sure it was suitable for planting a vineyard. When things have no purpose, they get misused and ultimately cause us loss.

Proverbs 31:17 She girds her loins with strength and makes her arms strong.
She makes her arms strong. This is a choice, the P31 manages a busy household and some of what she does requires she be strong. Physical activity isn’t always our favorite thing to do as women, but we are sometimes in a position where we must act and it calls for physical strain.
Not all decisions are based on what we like. If all my decisions were based on what I like, I’d be overweight because I show bread and sweets too much affection. I probably wouldn’t be married because I would be selfish. I may not have a job because if you say the wrong thing to me, I may decide to do something that will lead to me not being profitable. So, we must put on our big girl panties and make decisions that don’t always make us feel good. The profit of a wise, well-timed, purposeful decision is peace.
