Deflated

By time I got to the school to pick up the kids, late, it felt like it took every muscle in my body to produce the smile I gave the teacher. What a day.

Today was that day where I stepped up to the plate for every opportunity to screw up and knocked it out if the park. When asked my professional opinion on something, I sounded like I had no education at all. It was like having an embarrassing moment, thinking no one saw you, only to look around and lots of people saw you. I literally ended this day with my head in my hands. What do you do when you have this day, because at some point it happens.

Try, try again. The first part of that phrase says, “If at first you don’t succeed,”. This was by far the most unsuccessful work day I’d had. But one unsuccessful day doesn’t mean I don’t show up at work the next day, and quitting is never an option. We all recall that the P31 woman was in the fashion industry. She sewed and sold her products in the market. Now I am sure that she had times when her merchandise was not jumping off the racks. I know this, because if that were the case, verses 18-19 wouldn’t be necessary.

18 She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night.

19 In her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers.

Why would someone have to make sure their product is good, and stay up all night ensuring that its right unless they’ve had an unsuccessful product or they were close to someone who was unsuccessful at something. If you’re familiar with history, any kind of history, most of the notable people of history weren’t instant superstars. They failed a time or two or ten before they had a product that was a bestseller. They didn’t quit. I don’t know about you, but if success means I have to face failure, I’ll face it. The reward is so much greater.

I encourage you to not let your failures overtake your hope. Don’t let the days you screw up bring you down. Walk back to your job or situation with your head held high, confident that you can and will do better. Your failures of the past don’t have to define who you are today. So go back to the mess you made, untangle it, and start again, with the intent to succeed.
