The extra scenic route

Background: Invited to a bridal shower, entered address on IPhone GPS, GPS has me drive 45 minutes to the wrong destination, only to find out the destination was 15 minutes from my originating point.

So needless to say, going 45 minutes out of your way to get somewhere that is 15 minutes away is extremely annoying and very wasteful of time and resources. This is applicable to our lives and the lives of our families. When we don’t invest the time to map out our day, our year, or the path that our family should take in life, we waste time and resources. In my case I was rushing and didn’t take the time to read through the directions that were generated for me. If I had taken the time to read through the directions, it would have been very clear that the GPS was providing the wrong directions ( I did put in the correct address, the GPS was auto-correcting what I entered, too smart phone).

I once heard a teaching that explained how our days should be planned out the evening before. This is something I am still in the process of mastering. And this is supported by our passage of scripture in Proverbs 31 v 15. This speaks about the woman waking up before dawn and planning out her day, giving instruction to those that work for her.   When everyone is on the same page and knows what they are to do and where to go, time is used properly, resources are maximized, and the next day is spent moving forward vs catching up.

Neglecting to invest time planning for bigger things that involve your family can lead to years of delay vs minutes of delay. Sometimes we know the plan, have written it out, and taught it to everyone in the house. But failure to map out the details will get you moving, but in a direction that was not intended. And this supersedes being annoyed, this can cause major rifts in a family. My pastor and first lady occasionally talk about how the Bible mentions two helpers: The Holy Spirit and the wife. So, Ladies, we are apparently equipped to run off of one helper and He is truly all we need (those men, God created them so specially that they need 2). The Holy Spirit will give you direction, but you must slow down and listen (aka Prayer). And this is what puts us on the path to being a P31 woman. The prayer. Prayer isn’t the only thing, there are women who pray, but lack the passion to cater to the unique needs of her family. Don’t be that chick.

Although we are busy, we must first take the time to listen to our helper. If you have your destination plugged in, take the time to investigate all the necessary details, there may be areas where delay could be possible and avoidable. Scenic routes are cool to break up the monotony  of life, but extra scenic routes are a complete waste of time. If you find yourself taking too many extra scenic trips, decide where it is you and your family are really trying to go and make the necessary changes to go in the intended direction.
